and so it goes...
by metaspy inthis morning i started this topic: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/147355/1.ashx.
now i shall post the follow-up.. as i predicted, my mom would come with elders in tow to have a conversation.. actually, she threw me for a loop at first.
no elders with her.. she had them wait a half an hour then she let them in.. thus i couldn't reject the whole lot of them at the door, she was their way in.. secondly, she brought the elders from the nearby hall, not the ones who know me.. the whole time i thought she would go for someone who she knows can dominate my thinking, but instead she went with the unknown.. .

Many times elder #1 would say, "that was in the 70s, not now".
I have to laugh when I hear dubs say crap like this. Ask elder 1 if the things he holds as "truths" today will be "truths" 30 years from now or will todays "truths" be relegated to the dust bin of jw history by then just like the "truths" from the 70's are today.

While I was visiting some jw relatives I was shown a few pictures that were taken at a "Sisters over 70" party. I thought it was nice that someone would throw a party for those elderly gals. Maybe it was an unofficial group birthday party or perhaps they are thinking of starting their own version of a Red Hat Society. Anyway, I looked at all those gray, wise heads and thought it would have been interesting to ask them what they would have thought if someone had told them 30-50 years earlier that one day they would attend such a party to honor their old age. I also thought it would have been interesting to run a total of how many hours of their lives had been spent carrying out the commands of a printing corportation in New York. I have to admit that answers to either query would have been depressing.

most disturbing movie scene you've seen?
by knock knock ini haven't seen this topic on here so i thought i'd.... hmmm, maybe it's because it's just too disturbing?
to me, the scene in saving private ryan - the two soldiers in the small upstairs room fighting hand to hand to the death (by stabbing).
i think that is the most disturbing thing i've seen on screen and there were plenty just in that film alone.

Hasn't anyone seen "Irreversable?"- My god....just....my god......Brilliant film, but definitely the most disturbing one I've ever seen.
I noticed a couple of others mentioned Irreversable also.
I thought I was going to need a Lysol shower after watching the revenge killing in the gay sex club. And then the rape scene. JESUS CHRIST!! No wonder he beat his brains out! By the end of the movie (the beginning of the story) I was actually a bit teary eyed. I have never watched a film that moved me through such a range of emotions. I agree that the film is brilliant.

Four guys go to work yesterday...
by frozen one ini'm a construction foreman.
occasionally the work i have my crew perform involves entering what is called a "confined space" or a space that doesn't have ventilation such as a sewer manhole or other type of vault.
the lack of ventilation may cause explosive or poisonous gases to accumulate or deplete the oxygen level.

Yes Gopher,
When something happens in your backyard it tends to focus one's attention. I'm sure this will be a topic at work for a while. We get a lot of training where I work. I don't know if this company had much of a training and safety program. I heard on the local news that two of the deceased were sons of the company's founder. It is the dumb mistakes that get you.

I'm a construction foreman. Occasionally the work I have my crew perform involves entering what is called a "confined space" or a space that doesn't have ventilation such as a sewer manhole or other type of vault. The lack of ventilation may cause explosive or poisonous gases to accumulate or deplete the oxygen level. Entering such a space unprotected can lead to dire consequences.
My crew carries gear and equipment on their truck just for entering confined spaces. An atmosphere tester that detects explosive or poisonous gas and reads oxygen levels. The tester alarms if anything is amiss. The worker who is actually going to go into the space, or the entrant, wears rescue gear that consists of a harness attached to a winch mounted to a tripod. The rescue gear is what is used to get the entrant out if something goes wrong in the space. No one has to go in after him to carry him out. Just turn the crank. When the entrant goes into the space, an attendant stands at the hatch and watches the entrant the entire time the entrant is in the space.
Entering a confined space takes a lot of extra work and occasionally my crew will want to enter the space without using the gear. "Its only for a minute," they'll say. I always tell them that I could give a rat's ass if any of them die, I just don't want to do the paperwork involved in the fatality. This of course is said tongue in cheek. Then they bitch while setting up the gear and do the job right and when we are done we go home. In one piece. I've done scores of confined space entries and have never had an "incident."
Four guys go to work yesterday. Four guys I don't know but may have encountered at some point along the way. Anyway, yesterday afternoon some sort of work had to be done in a confined space. Here’s a photo of what it looks like at the surface:
The square in the middle of the round part is the hatch that leads to the confined space below
The bottom of this vault is 20 feet deep. Something was blocking a pump down there so a worker went down into the space to clear the problem. The worker collapsed so a second worker went down to help out the first. He collapsed so a third worker went down to help the first two. He collapsed. A fourth worker went down and he collapsed. Then someone called 911. The rescuers arrived but there was no one to rescue. Four bodies needed to be recovered.
Friends and family gathered:
As the grim task was performed:
At the news conference the Fire Chief said that the cause of death was a high level of hydrogen sulphide or “sewer gas.” He noted that the workers who died were not using any gear - no atmosphere tester, no rescue equipment, no ventilators, no masks - when they entered the confined space. What were they thinking?
Four guys went to work yesterday and died because they cut corners. “It’ll only take a minute.” “There’s never been a problem here before.” I’ve heard it many times. Four funerals being planned for four guys in their forty’s. Two of the four were brothers, a double tragedy for their families. The family of the brothers owned the company that employed all four of the deceased. An accident. A tragedy. A travesty. All preventable. What a waste.

So yeah, I'd say he's come a long way from Hibbing, Minnesota.
The Zimmerman family lived in an apartment a couple of blocks from my house before they packed up and moved to Hibbing. Dylan fans stop by there to take pictures of where Bob lived during his earliest years.

JW's do not die of old age
by frozen one ini spent the weekend visiting some of my jw relatives.
we were sitting around chatting and eventually got to the "death report" where i am updated about who had died around town since my last visit.
someone mentioned sister so&so had passed on and i asked how old she was.

While a medical report may indicate old age as the cause of death, it just seems to me that jw's, particularly elderly jw's, have a hard time admitting that someone has died from old age. It's like they are in denial about the possibility that someone from their peer group has actually grown old and died.
